About NIPA
The Northern Interscholastic Press Association (NIPA) was established in 1921 by a group of University of North Dakota journalism students. NIPA is now part of the School of Communication for the promotion and improvement of school newspapers and yearbooks in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Manitoba, Canada.
Each year, NIPA sponsors fall workshops, a spring conference and journalism contests for newspaper and yearbook publications. NIPA offers members a variety of services for their high school, junior high, and middle school journalism students and advisers.
NIPA is dedicated to helping high school journalism teachers and advisers provide the best possible experiences for their students through hands-on workshops, conferences, competitions, and positive professional feedback about high school publications.
NIPA is a professional journalism organization for secondary teachers and advisers. The membership consists of schools in the northern Midwest with curricular and extra-curricular journalism programs.
NIPA activities and programs are coordinated by NIPA director Jeremy Murphy. An advisory board of active journalism instructors and professional journalists provides guidance to the director for governing NIPA.
